Jonathan DePriest is a strings teacher with the Berkeley County School District and currently directs the Cane Bay Middle School Guitar and Orchestra programs.  A native of Aiken, SC, Jonathan attended the University of South Carolina School of Music in Columbia where he received a Bachelor of Music and Performance Certificate in 2008. During his time at USC, he was a member of the USC Symphony, USC String Project, and USC Community Music Program.  The first decade of his career was spent working for the Charleston County School District.  During his tenure with CCSD, he led the West Ashley and James Island Elementary Orchestras for five years, the Haut Gap Orchestra for two years, and the CE Williams Middle School Orchestra & Guitar programs for five years.  Jonathan was also the Coordinator for CCSD's District Orchestras and SMAART Strings programs.

 

Jonathan is also a freelance musician and studio teacher giving private lessons.  An active member of the National Association for Music Education and South Carolina Music Educators Association, Jonathan performs regularly with the North Charleston Pops Orchestra, the Beaufort Symphony, and for many weddings and events throughout the low country. Jonathan also fiddles and plays upright bass with a variety of local blues, bluegrass, country, jazz, rock, original, and cover bands. Some of his favorite things include traveling with his wife Rachel, daughter Evelyn, and their dog Jack.  He also enjoys astronomy, camping, cooking, fishing, hunting, and hiking as his schedule allows.
